Getting started
How do I add up a list?
Tap + on the main screen to start a tape. Type an amount on the keypad and press + (or −, ×, ÷) to put it on the tape. The running total shows above the keypad. Press = on an empty line to draw a subtotal.
How do I name a line?
Type your amounts first, then tap the left side of any line (where the name goes) and type a name. The amount stays as it is. Press Return to go back to the end of the tape. You can also switch to ABC before typing an amount to write the name first, like lunch 12.
How do I change an amount?
Tap the amount on the right of the line and type the new number with the keypad. The name stays, and every total below updates straight away.
What's the difference between a subtotal and a total?
A subtotal (=) shows the total so far and keeps counting. A total (---, on the Tools page) closes the block and starts a new one. With more than one block, the tape shows a grand total.
Tools
What's on the Tools page?
Tip, Split, Discount, % of, % change, What %, Rule of 3, Unit price and Average. Each one writes a clear line onto the tape, for example Tip 15%, so anyone reading it can see how the total was reached.
Can I write percentages and formulas myself?
Yes. +10% adds a percentage of the total, -19% removes an included percentage (like tax), ×3 and ÷4 multiply or divide the total, and expressions like 3 * 4.5 coffees work too. You can name a value with vat = 19 and use it later. Settings has the full list.
Sharing
How do I send a receipt?
Open a tape and tap the share button. You'll see a picture of the receipt with buttons to copy it, send it in Messages or WhatsApp, or share it anywhere else.
Can I change how the picture looks?
Yes. The picture follows your keypad theme, and the Style menu on the share page lets you pick any of the six styles. You can also hide the title or the date.
Your tapes
Where are my tapes stored?
On your iPhone only, in the app's folder, which you can also see in the Files app. They're included in your iPhone backups if you have backups turned on. There's no account and nothing is uploaded to us.
How do I delete a tape?
On the main screen, swipe left on a tape, or touch and hold it, and choose Delete. Inside a tape, touch and hold a line to delete just that line. Undo is in the toolbar.
Why do some tapes get a name automatically?
When you leave a tape untitled, Receipt Calc suggests a short name from what's on it, using Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. This only happens on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence with it turned on; otherwise the tape keeps its default name. Nothing leaves your device. You can rename any tape by tapping its title.
Look and feel
How do I change the keypad or switch to dark mode?
Open Settings from the gear on the main screen. Choose Automatic, Light or Dark under Appearance, and pick one of six keypad themes.
