Privacy policy
In short: Shorthand doesn't collect, store or share any of your personal data. Everything stays on your Mac.
Who we are
Shorthand is made by Axis Locus Pty Ltd, Australia ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the Shorthand app for Mac handles your information.
What we collect
Nothing. Shorthand has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app doesn't connect to our servers or any third-party service.
What you type
Shorthand uses the macOS Accessibility permission to notice when you've typed an abbreviation. It keeps only the last few characters you typed in memory, long enough to recognise an abbreviation, and clears them whenever you click. What you type is never saved to disk or sent anywhere. While another app has Secure Input on, such as a password field, macOS hides your typing from Shorthand entirely.
Your clipboard
To insert a snippet, Shorthand briefly places it on the clipboard, pastes it, then puts back whatever you had copied. If a snippet uses {clipboard}, your clipboard's text is read at that moment to fill it in. Nothing from the clipboard is kept or sent anywhere.
Your snippets
Your snippets, Prompt Bank entries and variables are saved only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Shorthand/. If you use Time Machine or another backup, they're included in that backup. We can't see them.
Deleting a snippet in the app removes it from your Mac. Deleting that folder removes them all.
Children
Shorthand is suitable for all ages and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting data, we'll say so here before it does.
